The average size <strong>of</strong> Cr (salpn) complex was about 12.7 Å which was determined<br />

<strong>from</strong> spartan program (Wavefunction, Inc.1996-1997, trial version) as shown in Figure<br />

7.12. Before complexation, <strong>the</strong> size <strong>of</strong> lig<strong>and</strong> was about 7 Å. It shows clearly this<br />

complex was too large to diffuse out <strong>from</strong> <strong>the</strong> zeolite cage. Size <strong>of</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r metal<br />

complexes were between 8-10 Å. Their size were nearly <strong>the</strong> same with zeolite channel<br />

so <strong>the</strong>y can diffuse out more easier than Cr(salpn) complex. This easiness <strong>of</strong> diffusion<br />

also confirmed by ICP <strong>and</strong> heterogeneity results.<br />

7.2.4. Cr (salpn)-NaY Catalyst Recycle<br />

A salient advantage <strong>of</strong> heterogeneous catalysts is <strong>the</strong> ease with which <strong>the</strong>y are<br />

separated <strong>from</strong> <strong>the</strong> reaction products. Separated heterogeneous catalysts should be<br />

reused in reactions.<br />

So in this <strong>the</strong>sis study, <strong>the</strong> used Cr (salpn)-NaY catalyst was used under <strong>the</strong><br />

same reaction conditions as for <strong>the</strong> initial run (reaction conditions: <strong>carvacrol</strong>/H2O2<br />

molar ratio=3, 0.1 g Cr (salpn)-NaY catalyst, 60 o C). Then <strong>the</strong> catalyst was filtrated at<br />

<strong>the</strong> end <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> each reaction <strong>and</strong> washed with acetonitrile, dried at 50 o C. The dried<br />

catalyst was used at <strong>the</strong> same reaction condition. At <strong>the</strong> end <strong>of</strong> fourth reaction, <strong>carvacrol</strong><br />

conversion decreased <strong>from</strong> 14.2% to 3% as shown in Figure 7.13.<br />

Although recycling property is so important parameter for heterogeneous<br />

catalyst system. Cr (salpn)-NaY catalyst may be recycled for two or three times. There<br />

was a progressive loss <strong>of</strong> activity with lowering in <strong>carvacrol</strong> conversion indicating<br />
