A considerably large number of laboratory and in-situ
calibration measurments have been completed to estimate
the proportion o-f variance due to measurment errors.
Spatial patterns have been then described with semi-
variograms (see Fig.3). These will serve as the basis for
plotting spatial estimation error against aerial block
size compatible with different sources o-f remotely sensed
data, and for the interpolation o-f the training data with
regard to spectral re-flectance characteristics o-f soils
(Baumgardner et al. 19S5) . Finally thematic maps are
planned to be constructed and tested.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
The invaluable contribution to stimulating discussions o-f
Sandor Kabos, Mikl6s Kert£sz and Kalman Rajkai is warmly
acknowledged. Many thanks to R. Webster for providing
computer programs and consultation on geostatistics.
