ecruiting / training raja sethi: devotion to relationships leads to long-term success The first thing that impressed Diamond Associate, Raja Sethi about Max International was that it was, in his words, “a real company.” He has met with many CEOs and company leaders over the years but he knew that there was something different at Max before the company even launched. He was struck by the sincerity of the founders and executives when he first met with them in January of 2007. He was immediately impressed with how down-to-earth they were and that they didn’t need to inflate the image of the company or the product. Raja said they didn’t shove forms at him and pressure him into signing up for anything. It wasn’t like other start-up companies he’d experienced that had weak financial backing and less-thancutting-edge products. He received samples of MaxGXL which he started taking himself. He also gave some to a friend of his, John Dickey, who had health issues significant enough that he was forced to spend much of his time in bed. After just six days on MaxGXL, John’s health had improved dramatically. He and his wife, Sherrie, were ready to go to work. They wanted to sign up immediately, but Raja was still looking into the company, which hadn’t even launched yet. The fact that Raja already had people lining up, combined with his own experience with the product and the company leaders, confirmed that this was a company unlike anything he had experienced before. Network marketing is all about the people, Raja said. The sincerity that so impressed Raja about Max International has been essential to his own success over the years, a big part of which has come from building trust through genuine interaction with people. Raja said he doesn’t have to spend a lot of time looking for new recruits because he has an enormous pool of friends to draw from; people who want to follow him into whatever he is currently involved with. He said he sends out some 500 handwritten Christmas cards every year. If a person isn’t interested in his latest venture he remains committed to that person as a friend. The business, whatever it is, should always be secondary to people, he said. raja's advice to people just starting out in the company is to first start taking MaxgXL, so you can have firsthand knowledge of its effectiveness. Relationships should always come first. As a result he often has people coming to him and wanting to join him in his latest venture. “They call me and ask me what I’m doing now,” Raja said. “They know I’m consistent and know they can trust me.” Many of his recruits at Max, in fact, were people 3
