If a student chooses to waive the award of transfer credit for specific coursework, a written request will be required. It is<br />

suggested that the student first discuss such waivers with his or her Financial Aid Advisor as such a waiver may have financial<br />

aid ramifications.<br />

Students are encouraged to submit a Transfer Credit Pre-approval form if they are considering taking courses at another<br />

institution while enrolled at <strong>Mt</strong>. <strong>Sierra</strong> <strong>College</strong>. Forms are available from Student Services.<br />

Notice concerning transferability of credits and credentials earned at <strong>Mt</strong>. <strong>Sierra</strong> <strong>College</strong>:<br />

The transferability of credits you earn at <strong>Mt</strong>. <strong>Sierra</strong> <strong>College</strong> is at the complete discretion of an institution to which the you may<br />

seek to transfer. Acceptance of the degree earned at <strong>Mt</strong>. <strong>Sierra</strong> <strong>College</strong> is also at the complete discretion of the institution to<br />

which you may seek to transfer. If the credits or degree that you earn at <strong>Mt</strong>. <strong>Sierra</strong> <strong>College</strong> are not accepted at the institution<br />

to which you seek to transfer, you may be required to repeat some or all of your coursework at that institution. For this reason<br />

you should make certain that your attendance at this institution will meet your educational goals. This may include contacting<br />

an institution to which you may seek to transfer after attending <strong>Mt</strong>. <strong>Sierra</strong> <strong>College</strong> to determine if your credits or degree will<br />

transfer.<br />

Military Training Credit<br />

Military training and experience will be considered for academic credit upon submission of an official American Council on<br />

Education (ACE) transcript. Based upon the ACE recommendations, credit will be granted for training equivalent in content<br />

and equal in credit hours to courses required for the program of enrollment.<br />

Credit by Examination<br />

The <strong>College</strong> provides the opportunity for proficiency exams in two subjects: DES-140: Introduction to Macintosh Computers<br />

and MTH-135: <strong>College</strong> Algebra. Requests for exams should be submitted to the <strong>Academic</strong>s Department for review. The<br />

Media Arts & Design Department Chairperson’s approval is required for the DES-140 proficiency exam. A passing score on<br />

the <strong>Mt</strong>. <strong>Sierra</strong> <strong>College</strong> Math Assessment is required for eligibility to take the MTH-135 proficiency exam. Students who have<br />

previously attended the class are not eligible to take the exam. A score of 70% or above is considered passing. The exam fee<br />

must be paid prior to testing. Note: Veterans and active military are exempt from the exam fee.<br />

Computer Vendor Certification<br />

Vendor certifications such as CompTIA, Microsoft Certifications or CISCO Certifications, may be considered for proficiency<br />

credit at the discretion of the appropriate department chairperson. Official documentation is required before credit will be<br />

awarded.<br />

Advanced Placement Credit (AP)<br />

Students who have successfully completed Advanced Placement (AP) courses with a grade of “C” or above and have passed<br />

the corresponding AP exam with a 3 or above may be eligible for college credit. Submission of an official score report and<br />

high school transcript is required. The following AP curriculum will be considered for credit:<br />

AP Studio Art DES-100: Design Basics & Lab or<br />

GAM-100: Design Basics for Gaming & Lab<br />

AP Computer Science CIT-140: Programming Fundamentals<br />

AP English Language & Composition * ENG-135: English Composition<br />

AP Economics ECN-150: Economics I<br />

AP Psychology PSY-215: Psychology<br />

*Students who are placed in ENG-080: Evolving English are not eligible for ENG-135: English Composition credit.<br />

<strong>College</strong> Level Examination Program (CLEP<br />

Students who successfully complete the CLEP English Composition with Essay or <strong>College</strong> Composition exam prior to<br />

attending <strong>Mt</strong>. <strong>Sierra</strong> <strong>College</strong> may be eligible for credit for *ENG-135: English Composition. A minimum score of 52 is<br />

required. Submission of an official CLEP score report is required.<br />

*Students who are placed in ENG-080: Evolving English are not eligible for credit for ENG-135: English Composition.<br />
