6.3 The PXE Tests in the CTF<br />

6.3.1 The liquid h<strong>and</strong>ling system Module-0 <strong>and</strong> the column plant<br />

For the scintillator <strong>and</strong> fluor preparation <strong>and</strong> first filling <strong>of</strong> the CTF1 in 1995 a temporary liquid<br />

h<strong>and</strong>ling system had been installed by the Munich group. In context with the development <strong>of</strong><br />

a solid column purification plant the temporary system was replaced by Module-0, the first<br />

modular part <strong>of</strong> the BOREXINO liquid h<strong>and</strong>ling system. It was originally constructed in 1996,<br />

<strong>and</strong> upgraded during 1998 <strong>and</strong> 1999. Module-0 serves as a flexible liquid h<strong>and</strong>ling unit for<br />

various filling <strong>and</strong> purification operations for BOREXINO <strong>and</strong> the CTF:<br />

- volumetric loading <strong>and</strong> unloading <strong>of</strong> liquid scintillator to/from the CTF Inner Vessel;<br />

- fluor mixing;<br />

- purification <strong>of</strong> liquid scintillator with a silica gel column;<br />
