HOTBIRD 13° East or they can choose
to manually load new software onto the
device.

to download the corresponding file and
transfer it to the receiver via a USB 2.0
or serial connection using the TFDN-USB
application that is also available from
Topfield. The procedure is exactly the
same as for uploading edited channels
lists.
The top-of-the-range TF7700HDPVR
as well as all other receivers with an
integrated network interface even allow
updating the software directly via the
Internet. A gateway or router has to be
installed to that end, so that it is possible
to provide a connection to the Internet
for the receiver.
In such a configuration the Topfield
TF7700HDPVT, for example, can automatically
obtain all information (like
standard gateway or DNS server) thanks
to DHCP. Alternatively, all settings can
also be entered manually. As soon as a
connection to the Internet can be established
the receiver connects to the Top-
field server and checks whether new
updates have been released.
If this is the case the update is loaded
and installed without the user having
to do a thing. A simple re-start of the
box is all that’s required before the new
software is operational. While an overthe-air
update via satellite is equally
user-friendly, this new technology is
much faster and also provides regular
updates for users whose antenna does
not point to either ASTRA or HOTBIRD.
