<strong>The</strong> district-wise area and production <strong>of</strong> ginger in <strong>Kerala</strong> during 1993-<br />

94 (Table 1.2) shows that Wynad district which is the leading producer ac­<br />

counts for about 50% <strong>of</strong> state output and about 39% <strong>of</strong> area. Emakulam ranks<br />

second with a share <strong>of</strong> about 13% <strong>of</strong> state output and about 15% <strong>of</strong> area.<br />

Wynad also stands first in maintaining higher level <strong>of</strong> productivity.<br />
