decreased further to 258.7, but is still up from 230.5 in 1998. During 2001 to 2003, the highest
percentage of induced abortions occurred in the 20-24 age group. In 2000, Carson City residents had the
highest rate in Nevada of 278.2. During 2001, Washoe County residents had the highest rate of induced
abortions (351.0). Mineral County residents had the highest rate during 2002 with 589.7, and in 2003
Washoe County residents again had the highest rate with 307.0.
2002, the total number of pregnancies rose to 41,862; of those pregnancies, 77% were live births, 22%
resulted in induced abortions and the remaining 1% were fetal deaths. There was a slight increase again
in 2003, to 42,558 pregnancies. The percentage of induced abortions continued to drop to 20% of
pregnancies, with 79% attributed to live births and 1% to fetal deaths.
