In 2003, Nevada was again the fastest growing state in the nation for the 17 th consecutive year (US
Census Bureau News). In 2001, Nevada’s population was estimated at 2,125,709. The population grew to
2,210,648 in 2002 and increased again to 2,290,436 in 2003. The state’s population is projected to surpass
2,797,000 by 2010. Clark and Washoe Counties accounted for more than 86% of the state’s residents in
2001, 2002 and 2003.
The top three age groups of Nevada’s population were 35-44, 25-34 and 5-14 for both 2001 and 2002.
In 2003, the top three were 35-44, 25-34 and 15-24. The population was almost evenly split between males
and females; however, there was a slight increase in the male population during those three years.
The White-Non Hispanic population continues to be the majority in Nevada with 65.4% (2001), 64.6%
(2002) and 63.7% (2003). The Hispanic population continued to grow throughout 2001 to 2003 and went
from 20.7% in 2001 to 22.0% in 2003. The Asian-Non Hispanic population grew steadily from 5.7% (2001)
to 6.0% (2003). Both Black-Non Hispanic and Native American-Non Hispanic remained constant at 6.9%
and 1.4%, respectively, during 2001 to 2003.
