In <strong>2003</strong>, <strong>Nevada</strong> was again the fastest growing state in the nation for the 17 th consecutive year (US<br />

Census Bureau News). In <strong>2001</strong>, <strong>Nevada</strong>’s population was estimated at 2,125,709. The population grew to<br />

2,210,648 in 2002 and increased again to 2,290,436 in <strong>2003</strong>. The state’s population is projected to surpass<br />

2,797,000 by 2010. Clark and Washoe Counties accounted for more than 86% of the state’s residents in<br />

<strong>2001</strong>, 2002 and <strong>2003</strong>.<br />

The top three age groups of <strong>Nevada</strong>’s population were 35-44, 25-34 and 5-14 for both <strong>2001</strong> and 2002.<br />

In <strong>2003</strong>, the top three were 35-44, 25-34 and 15-24. The population was almost evenly split between males<br />

and females; however, there was a slight increase in the male population during those three years.<br />

The White-Non Hispanic population continues to be the majority in <strong>Nevada</strong> with 65.4% (<strong>2001</strong>), 64.6%<br />

(2002) and 63.7% (<strong>2003</strong>). The Hispanic population continued to grow throughout <strong>2001</strong> to <strong>2003</strong> and went<br />

from 20.7% in <strong>2001</strong> to 22.0% in <strong>2003</strong>. The Asian-Non Hispanic population grew steadily from 5.7% (<strong>2001</strong>)<br />

to 6.0% (<strong>2003</strong>). Both Black-Non Hispanic and Native American-Non Hispanic remained constant at 6.9%<br />

and 1.4%, respectively, during <strong>2001</strong> to <strong>2003</strong>.<br />
