“Vette Collections” Visits Massive Car Collection – at Walmart?
When it comes to car collections, rarity
and size are always major factors. But
when it comes to the Corvette collection
on the latest episode of Michael
Brown’s Vette Collections, those aren’t
the only things that set this latest array
of cars apart – it’s also where they’re
located.
Housed in a 100,000 square foot facility
that used to be an old Walmart, Rick
Treworgy’s car collection is
astonishing. Containing mostly iconic
GM vehicles, the number of cars in the collection runs well into the 200 range. And while this number
might make you think that most just sit, Treworgy enjoys them all, keeping them in driving order and
ready to hit the road at any time.
If this sounds familiar, that’s because we took our first look at this massive collection back in February of
2012 for our sister publication, Street Legal TV.
So what started Treworgy’s knack for collecting GMs? Well, he admits that his dad’s passion for Fords
had something to do with it, but to him, GMs were just easier to work on, easier to get more power out of
and easier to trade parts for. So, what started out as a mere dream turned into this massive warehouse of
GM vehicles, thanks especially to Treworgy’s long career in commercial real estate.
Among the GM models on the showroom floor (yes, this facility is open to the public) are a number of
Corvettes ranging from C1s to C6s. In fact, Treworgy owns at least one Corvette of every model year
from 1954 to 1975, as well as plenty of more modern Corvette models.
Now, if you’ve ever visited this collection, known as Rick Treworgy’s Muscle Car City in Punta Gorda,
Florida, chances are that you’ve seen many of these cars, but as Michael Brown points out, you probably
haven’t seen them all. With an ever-changing inventory and new acquisitions all the time, new additions
to the collections are always popping up. That’s because Treworgy knows that if you don’t buy it when
you see it, chances are it won’t be there the
next time you go looking for it.
With over 200 cars, what more could an avid
car collector want? According to Treworgy,
he’s always looking for rare cars and has
made plenty of transactions for cars at local
car shows and events. In addition to the
massive car collection, Muscle Car City also
features a gift shop and vintage ‘60s style
diner where you can escape even further into
the great muscle car era. Not a bad way to
spend a day if you ask us.
