Shanghai to renew 1750 buses in <strong>2008</strong> (Mar. 7, <strong>2008</strong>)<br />

Shanghai has adopted a lot of measures to control air pollution from public transport,<br />

especially buses. Relevant governments launched a special action to deal with black<br />

smog of buses. In <strong>2008</strong>, around 1750 buses will be renewed to meet the national III<br />

standard.<br />

Chengdu: New standard for new car registration from May 1 (Mar.6, <strong>2008</strong>)<br />

From May 1, all new registered cars in Chengdu should obey the Phase 3 emission<br />

standard. To promote the implementation of the new standard, Chengdu will launch<br />

several relevant new regulation on new car sales, ownership management and use<br />

management.<br />

Xiamen: Penalty of Max. 2000 RMB for excessive emitting vehicles (Mar.6, <strong>2008</strong>)<br />

Vehicle ownership increase by 20% every year, resulting vehicle emission as one of the<br />

key sources of air pollution. It is revealed that the new Xiamen Environment Protection<br />

Regulation is under revise. According to the new regulation, an excessive emitting vehicle<br />

might be fined about 2000 at the maxim.<br />

Vehicles to be compensated for Beijing traffic ban (Mar.7, <strong>2008</strong>)<br />

Traffic ban shall be imposed during the Olympic Games in Beijing, with the vehicles<br />

affected compensated by the government, said Ji Lin, vice mayor of Beijing on Friday. The<br />

compensation plan is being drafted and the amount is yet to be published. Automobiles,<br />

excluding taxis, buses and emergency vehicles, are to stay off roads every other day in<br />

accordance with the even and odd numbers on the license plates.<br />

Changsha might implement National IV in two years (Mar.4, <strong>2008</strong>)<br />

After Beijing adopted the National IV vehicle emission standard, local governments might<br />

adopt similar regulations consecutively in the next few years. Officer from Changsha EPB<br />

revealed that Changsha might adopt the new standard in next two years, as an important<br />

instrument to control urban air pollution.<br />

Volkswagen promises 'green' motorcade (Mar.7, <strong>2008</strong>)<br />

In line with the theme of hosting a "green" Olympics, Volkswagen will provide<br />

environmentally friendly vehicles for the Chinese mainland leg of the Olympic torch relay.<br />

At the announcing ceremony, Volkswagen unveiled that up to the end of 2007, all of<br />

Volkswagen Group's joint ventures have been awarded SO14001 certification for meeting<br />
