Guangxi replaces oil with bio-ethanol fuel (April 1, <strong>2008</strong>)<br />

South <strong>China</strong>'s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region became the 10th Chinese locality to<br />

have replaced gasoline and diesel oil with bio-ethanol fuel on Tuesday out of<br />

environmental and energy efficiency concerns. Petrol stations in all the 14 cities of<br />

Guangxi began to sell bio-ethanol fuel on Tuesday and in two weeks, traditional petrol and<br />

diesel oil will be phased out.<br />

Bio-ethanol fuel is promoted in 10 provinces in <strong>China</strong> (April 2, <strong>2008</strong>)<br />

Guangxi’ switch to bio-ethanol fuel is the 10 th province in <strong>China</strong> promoting bio-ethanol<br />

fuels. Before this, several places have adopted the switch, including Jilin, Liaoning,<br />

Heilongjiang, Henan, Anhui and part places in Shandong, Jiangsu, Hubei and Hebei<br />

Province. This is part of <strong>China</strong>’s energy switch strategy.<br />

Qingdao adopts electric buses (April 2, <strong>2008</strong>)<br />

Qingdao will start 4 electric buses from April, to reduce vehicle emission and prepared for<br />

Green Olympics. The new buses will be recharged to run 250 km at one time. Energy<br />

consumption for transportation is 1.6 kw.h per kilometer.<br />

Chongqing will restrict high-polluting vehicles from central city (April 3, <strong>2008</strong>)<br />

Chongqing will adopt monitoring to vehicles running in the central city, and release<br />

environment labels according to the monitoring result. All heavy-polluting vehicles will be<br />

restricted from access into central city.<br />

HK: Environmental business vehicles will be favored on initial registration tax (April 3,<br />

<strong>2008</strong>)<br />

According to Hong Kong Environment Protection Bureau, all environmental business<br />

vehicles will be favored on initial registration tax. The tax favor covers those vehicles<br />

meeting Euro V emission standard. All buses, taxies, and vehicles for special purposes<br />

will be waived of the initial registration tax. Cargo vehicles will be got a favor of 50%<br />

waive.<br />
