Petrol stations in all the 14 cities of Guangxi began to sell bio-ethanol fuel on Tuesday and in two weeks, traditional petrol and diesel oil will be phased out. Before this, several places have adopted the switch, including Jilin, Liaoning, Heilongjiang, Henan, Anhui and part places in Shandong, Jiangsu, Hubei and Hebei Province. This is part of China’s energy switch strategy. The new buses will be recharged to run 250 km at one time. Energy consumption for transportation is 1.6 kw.h per kilometer. All heavy-polluting vehicles will be restricted from access into central city. The tax favor covers those vehicles meeting Euro V emission standard. All buses, taxies, and vehicles for special purposes will be waived of the initial registration tax. CAI-Asia China Project E-Newsletter @2008 Tianjin will renew another 1500 buses before Olympics (March 31, 2008) Tianjin has launched a series of actions to promote public transport, including providing training in public bus industry, and enhancing public participation and supervision. In addition, 1500 vehicles will be renewed before Olympics, with another 500 vehicles to be renovated. All the new procurement on vehicles in public transport should meet national III standard. The three lines are the Tianjin section of the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway, the railway from the Tianjin west railway station to the Tianjin station, and the Tianjin-Qinhuangdao railway. The monitoring of environmental protection and clean production systems are also key areas of interest for joint research. Scientists will discuss the specifics of the research at a three-day China-US Workshop on Environmental Science and Technology Cooperation, which opened in Beijing Tuesday. The survey gathered responses from more than 3,000 people from 20 provinces over a year.
