The legal job search has become increasingly challenging
over the past year. With the massive layoffs reported at large
fi rms, the legal job market is comprised of both experienced
lawyers and newly minted ones who may be applying for the
same positions. A key in today’s job search is to have a plan that
includes knowing where to identify employment opportunities.
As part of your job search, you should make it a habit to visit the
various attorney job banks regularly. I have provided a listing
of several below that will assist you in your job search.
The Intercollegiate Job Bank: Brigham Young University
School of Law serves as the host of the Intercollegiate Job Bank.
Every month, law schools upload their attorney job postings
as a service to lawyers who may be relocating to a different
area. To access the job bank, go to www.law2.byu.edu
and select the career services tab from the quick links
box. Next, select the visitors tab found under career
services information and then Intercollegiate Job
Bank. To gain access, a username and password are
required (you can obtain access by contacting the
career services offi ce at Texas Wesleyan School of
Law, 817-212-4050).
State Bar of Texas Career Center: The State
Bar of Texas offers an online career center
where legal professionals can search jobs,
post resumes, and read hundreds of careerrelated
articles. Employers can also post
jobs and search resumes. A username or
password is not required. To access the
career center, go to www.texasbar.com
and select the other services tab from the
menu options box on the left. Next, select the
career center tab, then the job seekers tab, and
fi nally, the search jobs tab. Enter the job type
and geographic location and the system will
provide you with a listing of jobs that meet
your criteria.
The Texas District and County Attorney’s
Association Job Bank: For those seeking
positions with a district attorney’s offi ce,
the TDCAA job bank is an extremely
helpful resource. It lists positions at DA’s
offi ces throughout the state. A username
and password are also not required to view
these postings. To access the job bank, go to
www.tdcaa.com and select the job bank tab
from the menu options at the top of the page.
Attorney General of Texas Job Postings: The
offi ce of the attorney general (OAG) also makes
services

job postings available online. To view a current list of positions,
go to www.oag.state.tx.us and select the employment tab from
the menu options. Next, select the job postings tab from the
employment pages box. The OAG job bank allows you to view
employment listings by division, location, title, posting date
and monthly salary. A username and password are not required
to view the postings.
USAJOBS: USAJOBS serves as the offi cial job site for the United
States federal government. It is the one-stop source for federal
jobs and employment information. To access the federal job
bank, go to www.usajobs.com. Select the search jobs tab from
the menu options at the top of the page and enter the word
“attorney” in the keywords box. The site allows you to refi ne
your search by adding additional keywords including the city
or postal code that you are interested in and the specifi c
government agency. A username and password are not
required to view the listings.
Local Bar Association Job Banks: Some local bar
associations offer online job posting boards. To access
the Tarrant County Bar Association’s job bank, go to
www.tarrantbar.org and select the classifi ed ads
tab from the menu options on the left of the screen.
Next, select the employment opportunities tab. To
access the Dallas Bar Association’s job bank, go to
www.dallasbar.org and select the attorney resources
tab from the menu box. Select the classifi eds tab to
view the listings. A username and password are
not required.
Texas Wesleyan Law’s Online Job Bank: Last,
but certainly not least, the law school maintains a
password-protected online job bank for Texas Wesleyan
law alumni. To access the job bank, go to our web site at
www.law.txwes.edu and select the career services tab
from the menu box. Next, select the job opportunities
tab and then select searching for job opportunities. If
you do not have a username or password, please contact
Courtney Key (ckey@law.txwes.edu) in the career services
offi ce or call 817-212-4050. New job announcements are
posted within 24 hours.
