Earth Day began way back on April 22, 1970, but few would argue we need it now more than ever. It started in response to the growing problem of air pollution created by cars and factories, which was just beginning to be linked to disease and death. So although every day should be Earth Day for each of us, it’s also good to have a day when everyone collectively puts their focus on Mother Earth. How will you celebrate Earth Day, April 22, 2011? Some suggestions are: Reduce water and/or electricity consumption or carpool, walk, bike or ride the bus. Be creative, find ways to reduce, reuse and recycle. DID YOU KNOW, that the Student Nutrition Department has a Kitchen Watcher program in which we work to reduce our carbon footprint as much as possible? Staff is encouraged to identify any ways that we can save energy and reduce our carbon footprint. Kitchens use low water usage faucets and all new equipment is the most energy efficient available. The kitchens use certified green cleaning products. The staff only pre-heats equipment for the minimum amount of time needed, and turns off lights in storerooms, bathrooms, offices and other areas when not working in those areas. This year, to further reduce our carbon footprint, we have planned a day each month in which the cooking and heating equipment in the kitchen will not be used. You will find these days signified with this symbol: El Día de la Tierra se celebró por primera vez el 22 de abril de 1970, y todo mundo está de acuerdo en que lo necesitamos ahora más que nunca. Esta celebración se inició como respuesta al creciente problema de la polución ambiental creado por vehículos y fábricas, y en esos años apenas empezábamos a comprender que esta polución estaba ligada a enfermedades y aún a la muerte. Aún cuando cada día debería ser un Día de la Tierra para todos nosotros, es bueno que haya un día en el cual todos colectivamente nos enfoquemos en nuestra madre la Tierra. ¿Cómo piensa celebrar el Día de la Tierra el 22 de abril del 2011? He aquí algunas sugerencias: Reducir el consumo de agua y/o electricidad, organice a varios compañeros de trabajo que vivan cerca para que se utilice un solo vehículo de ida y de vuelta al trabajo, o camine, use su bicicleta o utilice transporte público. Sea creativo y encuentre formas de reducir, volver a usar y reciclar. ¿SABÍA USTED QUE el Departamento de Nutrición tiene un programa de Vigilancia de cocina en el cual procuramos reducir nuestra huella de carbono al máximo? Se anima al personal a identificar formas de ahorrar energía y de reducir nuestro consumo. Las cocinas utilizan grifos de baja presión, y todo el equipo nuevo de las cocinas es el más eficiente posible en cuestión de energía. Todas las cocinas usan productos de limpieza que no produzcan polución. El personal solo pre calienta los hornos lo absolutamente necesario, y se apagan todas las luces en almacenes, baños, oficinas y otras áreas cuando no se estén utilizando. Este año, para mayor reducción de uso de energía, hemos programado un día al mes en el cual no se utilizarán los hornos ni las hornillas. En estos días verá usted este símbolo.
Did you know... Now that we are approaching the end of the school year, you may be wondering how to handle the remaining money on your student’s account. There are a couple of options available. You may leave the money on account and it will be available for use next year. Even if your student changes schools within C-FB ISD the money will follow them to the new school. Another option is to request a refund. You can obtain a written request form from you cafeteria manager. Once the completed form is submitted you will receive a check for the remaining amount in approximately 10 days from the district’s business office. Cafeteria managers are not allowed to refund at the school location. DID YOU KNOW that over 3.5 million meals are served in the C-FB ISD school cafeteria each year by a team of 250 employees? As this year comes to a close we want to wish you a great summer and thank you for your business this year. We hope to see your students in our cafeteria next year. Ahora que nos acercamos al final del ciclo escolar es bueno saber cómo manejar el saldo que puede haber en la cuenta de su estudiante. Hay un par de opciones: puede dejar el saldo en la cuenta, y se le abonará para el próximo ciclo escolar. Aún cuando su estudiante se mude de escuela dentro del distrito escolar de C-FB ISD, su saldo se le abonará en su nuevo plantel escolar. Otra opción es solicitar un reembolso. La administradora de su comedor escolar le puede facilitar una solicitud de reembolso. Una vez que presente usted su solicitud por escrito, recibirá un cheque de parte de la oficina administrativa del distrito por su saldo en aproximadamente 10 días. Las administradoras de comedor en las escuelas no pueden reembolsarle su saldo en la escuela. ¿SABÍA USTED QUE cada ciclo escolar un equipo de 250 empleados sirve más de 3.5 millones de comidas en los comedores escolares de C-FB ISD?
