UNIT 5, GEOGRAPHY, MAP SKILLS & ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS
Cadets build map reading and land navigation skills, applying them to the sport of orienteering and to air navigation.
Cadets develop global awareness, as they compare physical, political, economic, and cultural elements of continents,
regions and countries, and examine the global nature of environmental issues.
UNIT 6, CITIZENSHIP IN AMERICAN HISTORY & GOVERNMENT
Builds the basic skills and interest for participation in civic and political life. Cadets actively engage in the We The People
curriculum to explore the origins, structure, rights, and responsibilities of the American constitutional government.
Actively engages cadets in applying problem solving strategies to current political and social issues.
ACADEMIC COURSES
AJROTC I
One Year
Grades: 9, 10, 11, 12
Credit: 1
Prerequisite: None
This course provides cadets basic-level knowledge of and or introductory-level training in: citizenship (foundations of
Army JROTC and getting involved); leadership theory and application (being a leader, leadership skills); foundations for
success (knowing yourself, learning to learn, study skills, communication skills, conflict resolution, financial planning);
wellness, fitness and first aid (President’s physical fitness program, Red Cross first aid and CPR training and certification).
This course develops responsiveness to constituted authority (followership), good citizenship, patriotism, and prepares
cadets to assume responsible leadership roles that benefit the student, community, and nation.
AJROTC II
One Year
Grades: 10, 11, 12
Credit: 1
Prerequisite: AJROTC I
This course provides cadets with basic- to intermediate-level knowledge of and or basic-level training in: leadership
theory and application (skills, attributes and actions); wellness, fitness and first aid (achieving a healthy lifestyle, first aid
for emergency and non-emergency situations, drug awareness, President’s physical fitness program, Red Cross child and
infant CPR); geography & map skills (map reading, exploring the world, environmental awareness); citizenship in
American history and government (You the People citizenship skills, foundations of the American political system,
creating the U.S. Constitution, Bill of Rights, citizen roles in American democracy). Cadets perform leadership and
management tasks in accordance with unit standing operating procedures and instructor guidance pertaining to their
basic-level duty position assignment and associated responsibilities.
AJROTC III
One Year
Grades: 11, 12
Credit: 1
Prerequisite: AJROTC II
This course provides cadets with basic- to intermediate-level knowledge of and or intermediate-level training in:
citizenship in action (command and staff actions); leadership theory and application (leadership planning, leadership
strategies, leading others); foundations for success (presenting skills, managing conflict, career planning, planning skills
