Encouraging Infrastructure<br />

45. With a view to ushering in a second white<br />
revolution, this Government has sanctioned Rs.235 crores for<br />
strengthening veterinary infrastructure. In the last two years,<br />
construction, renovation and repairs to nearly 1,500 veterinary<br />
institutions have been taken up and 585 sub centres have<br />
been upgraded as veterinary dispensaries. Further, 303<br />
Livestock Inspectors have been newly recruited. As<br />
announced, two new veterinary colleges have already been<br />
started in Tirunelveli and Orathanadu.<br />
46. During <strong>2013</strong>-20<strong>14</strong>, another 100 veterinary<br />
sub-centres will be upgraded into veterinary<br />
dispensaries. This Government will take up construction<br />
of buildings for 450 veterinary dispensaries at a cost of<br />
Rs.115 crores during <strong>2013</strong>-20<strong>14</strong>. A sum of Rs.25 crores<br />
has been provided for further renovation of existing<br />
veterinary dispensaries and hospitals during<br />
<strong>2013</strong>-20<strong>14</strong>.<br />
Performance of Aavin<br />
47. As a result of the efforts of the Government in<br />
the dairy sector, the milk procurement by the District<br />
Co-operative Milk Producers Unions has reached a high level of<br />
27.<strong>14</strong> lakh litres per day during the peak season. We will<br />
continue our efforts to upgrade the facilities in the Milk Unions<br />
as well as the Chennai Metro Dairies to create higher milk<br />
