Compliance with Environmental Protection Act 1990, Control of Noise at Works<br />

Regulations 2005, The Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1974 and BS<br />

5228 will be required. Reference should be made to the Noise and Vibration<br />

<strong>Management</strong> <strong>Plan</strong> at Appendix 7 of the Remediation Strategy (report ref. B0064-<br />

0C-R1-1 <strong>BAE</strong> Systems 2009).<br />

A programme of monitoring and measurement would be undertaken to ensure<br />

that noise and vibration levels at nearby properties or other sensitive sites are<br />

within limits set by Statute and British Standards. This will require regular<br />

monitoring for action level compliance.<br />

Strict controls on the sequencing of works and providing noise protection would<br />

be developed on an activity-by activity basis. These would include:<br />

Static plant would be positioned away from properties<br />

Mobile plant would be turned off when not in use<br />

Engine covers will be in place when plant is operating<br />

Modern, silenced and well maintained plant will be used for each<br />

construction task in line with EU directives<br />

Use of radios, other sound systems or tannoys would not be permitted<br />

anywhere on the construction site apart from under emergency<br />

conditions.<br />

Cutting operations or other noisy tasks would be minimised wherever<br />

practicable.<br />

Localised shielding of noisy operations would be required where there<br />

may be a risk of nuisance.<br />

Working hours for heavy machinery would be restricted to the hours indicated<br />

below:<br />

Normal Working Hours<br />

0730 – 1800 Monday to Friday<br />

0730 – 1300 Saturday<br />

With occasional working on Sundays and Bank Holidays where essential and<br />

agreed with Renfrewshire Council.<br />

6.4 Air Quality & Emissions<br />

Particular care would be required to maintain dust emissions at a practicable<br />

minimum when working in the vicinity of the residential properties and<br />

environmentally sensitive areas. Best Practice mitigation would be required<br />

during dry conditions. The use of Best Practicable Means (as defined in Part III<br />

of the Environmental Protection Act 1990) would be employed. Dust reduction<br />
