area. Dense microbi<strong>al</strong> encrustation (automicrites) (Fig. 1B) on cor<strong>al</strong>s are common, while<br />

Lithocodium/Bacinella are very rare. That suggests higher nutrient level as one of the main controlling factor<br />

because the mo<strong>de</strong>rate <strong>de</strong>velopment of Lithocodium/Bacinella encrustations (as on cor<strong>al</strong>s in the lower part of<br />

the studied section) is commonly assumed as the indicator of oligotrophic/mildly mesotrophic<br />

environment. By contrast, Late Jurassic phaceloid pachythec<strong>al</strong>iines are known to occur within diversified<br />

cor<strong>al</strong> assemblages, and are commonly associated by Lithocodium/Bacinella.<br />
