Cinema card<br />

Do you have a cinema card? If not why not? It costs £5.50 and means that when you take<br />

your child or young person to the cinema you can get in free for one year. The card is in<br />

the child’s name so it doesn’t matter who goes with them. To apply for the card you will<br />

need to submit pro<strong>of</strong> to show that you meet one or more <strong>of</strong> the following criteria:<br />

• be in receipt <strong>of</strong> Disability Living Allowance or Attendance Allowance<br />

• be a registered blind person.<br />

You will also need to supply a passport-sized photo with your application to appear on<br />

Short break duty<br />

A duty on local authorities to provide breaks from caring for families with disabled<br />

children came into force on 1 April. The regulations state that by 1 October <strong>2011</strong><br />

local authorities must publish a statement in their area setting out:<br />

• details <strong>of</strong> the range <strong>of</strong> short breaks services provided<br />

• any criteria against which eligibility services will be assessed<br />

• how the range <strong>of</strong> services is designed to meet the needs <strong>of</strong> carers in their area.<br />
