<strong>Transport</strong> plann<strong>in</strong>g & land use<br />

Objective <strong>of</strong> the whole course<br />

To show the correlation between land use and transport with the help <strong>of</strong> exist<strong>in</strong>g research<br />

<strong>results</strong> and exam<strong>in</strong>ations <strong>in</strong> the own city. In an empirical approach the students will transfer<br />

the reviewed <strong>results</strong> and compare two quarters <strong>of</strong> Kaiserslautern.<br />

The students should develop an understand<strong>in</strong>g and skills about the follow<strong>in</strong>g:<br />

- To develop an understand<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong> the <strong>in</strong>terrelation <strong>of</strong> land-use and transportation needs.<br />

- To realise the transport plann<strong>in</strong>g problems with<strong>in</strong> urban and suburban areas.<br />

- To be <strong>in</strong>formed about latest trends, policies and practices <strong>in</strong> this field, form<strong>in</strong>g a<br />

valuable background for their future work.<br />

- To develop and exercise their critical skills that will help them <strong>in</strong> evaluation,<br />

assessment and (later on) the design <strong>of</strong> transportation plans <strong>in</strong> urban and suburban<br />

regions.<br />

- suburbanisation (Suburbanisierung)<br />

- revaluation <strong>of</strong> city centers (Reaktivierung der Innenstädte)<br />

- strategies <strong>of</strong> development <strong>of</strong> trade areas (Strategien der Gewerbeflächenentwicklung)<br />

- choice <strong>of</strong> location <strong>of</strong> bus<strong>in</strong>ess companies (Standortwahl von Unternehmen)<br />
