The Chinese patent applications that have been filed by the Shanghai Institute<br />

of Materia Medica, Chinese Academy of Science, Neijiang Pharmaceutics Factory<br />

and individuals involves the use of the plant, as a medicine pillow, oral medicine<br />

for nervous system disorders and queen cell high-efficient health care tonic wine.<br />

There are six Japanese applications on the use of the plant (i) as lypolysis<br />

promoter, (ii) as part of a cosmetic composition, (iii) in a formulation for<br />

preventing and improving visual impairment and (iv) for skin external<br />

preparations.<br />

There is one Latvian application and three Indian applications, out of which<br />

one is filed in India and the other two, are PCT applications. Both these<br />

applications relate to herbal compositions for improving overall mental<br />

performance in children, adults and mentally deficient people.<br />

Patents granted by the USPTO include the following:<br />

US Patent 6,270,752: Cosmetic formulations for the prevention and therapy<br />

of hair loss.<br />

US Patent 5,439,891: Process for preparation of pharmaceutical composition<br />

with enhanced activity for treatment of tuberculosis and leprosy.<br />
