● Areca catechu: Supari in Hindi, Adike in Kannada, Kavunnu, Kamunnu and<br />
Ataykkamarm in Malayalam, Pugah in Sanskrit, Pakkumaram in Tamil, Vakka<br />
and Poka in Telugu and Arecanut tree and Betelnut tree in English.<br />
● Piper nigrum: See no.18.<br />
● Nicotiana tabacum: Tamaku and Tambaku in Hindi, Hogesoppu and Tambaku<br />
in Kannada, Pukayila and Pokala in Malayalam, Pugaiyilai in Tamil, Pogaku<br />
in Telugu, Tobacco in English.<br />

Description of the plant and its location:<br />
● Zingiber officinale: See under chapter 26.<br />
● Areca catechu: A tall slender unbranched palm with a crown of leaves. It is<br />
cultivated throughout India.<br />
● Piper nigrum: See plant no. 18.<br />
● Nicotiana tabacum: A glandular, pubescent erect herb with few branches;<br />
leaves are simple and ovate. It has many seeds, many with fluted ridges, and<br />
is cultivated in the hotter parts of India.<br />
