Description of the plant and its location: It is a well-known herb used in<br />
the Cordillera highlands and other parts of the Philippines.<br />
Part/s used:<br />
Indigenous/local use of the plant: It is known to be used by traditional<br />
heelers to treat fever, diarrhoea and diabetes and to act as a purgative and<br />
stimulant. The treatment is documented in national literature.<br />
Modern use in the patent: A patent has been awarded to a Japanese company<br />
called Itoen KK for an anti-diabetic drug based on this plant.<br />
