Days 1-2: UK - Hangzhou
Fly overnight to Shanghai and transfer by
coach to Hangzhou (3 hours) where we
will check into our hotel for three nights.
Day 3: Hangzhou
After breakfast, transfer to Hangzhou and
enjoy lunch near the beautiful West Lake.
In the afternoon take a relaxing cruise on
the lake and explore the gardens. During
the day you will enjoy a special presentation
from Stuart Clark with the opportunity to
ask questions about tomorrow’s eclipse.se.
Day 4: ECLIPSE DAY
After an early breakfast we depart by coach
to the banks of the Qiantang River with the
journey taking approximately one hour.
There will be sufficient time to set up your
astronomical equipment prior to viewing
the spectacular eclipse.This will be followed
by one of the highest tidal al bores ever
experienced with the huge wave rushing up
the river past our viewing site. Lunch is at a
nearby restaurant before returning to
Hangzhou.
Day 5: Hangzhou - Suzhou
After breakfast we depart by coach for
Suzhou.The journey takes approximately
two hours, and on arrival visit the famous
Silk Museum. Suzhou is traditionally the
centre of the Chinese silk industry and
dates back 2,500 years. In the afternoon we
enjoy a stroll in the 500-year-old Humble
Administrator’s Garden followed by a visit
to the Grand Canal, China’s most famous
inland waterway. Stay overnight in Suzhou.
Day 6-7: Suzhou - Shanghai
Take a scenic train journey to Shanghai.
The rest of the day is at leisure. The next
morning we experience Shanghai on a
City Tour, including the Bund and Museum.
After lunch we will be taken by coach to
the Old Town shopping district, which
contains a colourful collection of shops and
restaurants. Be sure to bargain! In the
evening, enjoy a farewell dinner at a local
hotpot restaurant.
Day 8: Shanghai - UK
After breakfast you will be transferred to
the Maglev Railway Station for an exciting
train ride to Shanghai Airport by a magnetic
levitation train which operates at speeds up
to 268 mph. We board our return flight to
the UK arriving home later the same day
filled with many happy memories.
