The fabulous Nine Villages Valley is as featured on <strong>the</strong> BBC holiday<br />

programme in November 2006, as well as <strong>the</strong> Oscar winning film<br />

“Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”, Cinemas’s photographic<br />

masterpiece “Hero” and “House of Flying Daggers”. We are also<br />

awed by <strong>the</strong> natural beauty of Sichuan Province, <strong>the</strong> Grand<br />

Buddha at Leshan, <strong>the</strong> Terracotta Warriors, <strong>the</strong> Great Wall and<br />

Chengdu’s Panda Reserve.<br />

Days 1-4: <strong>UK</strong> - Shanghai - <strong>Wu</strong>zhen<br />

Fly to Shanghai where a welcoming dinner<br />

of traditional Shanghai cuisine awaits. On<br />

Day 3 we take an excursion to picturesque<br />

<strong>Wu</strong>zhen and on Day 4 explore Yu Gardens,<br />

<strong>the</strong> Old Town, <strong>the</strong> Shanghai Museum and<br />

<strong>the</strong> Bund with its grand early 1900’s style<br />

architecture. In <strong>the</strong> evening enjoy a stunning<br />

Huangpu River Cruise, where we view <strong>the</strong><br />

old and new Shanghai.<br />

Days 5-6: Chengdu - Mianyang<br />

Fly to Chengdu. Our welcoming dinner will<br />

be of traditional Sichuan cuisine. Visit <strong>the</strong><br />

famous Giant Panda Reserve to admire<br />

<strong>the</strong>se adorable creatures and <strong>the</strong> Sanxingdui<br />

Museum, home to many significant cultural<br />

relics. Continue onwards to Mianyang.<br />

Days 7-8: Nine Villages Valley<br />

Travel by coach to <strong>the</strong> breathtaking<br />

Nine Villages Valley (Jiuzhaigou), a botanical<br />

gallery that is heavily forested and home to<br />

many protected species.The entire valley<br />

presents a seemingly never-ending display of<br />

stunning natural scenery that will inspire any<br />

budding photographer.<br />

Days 9-10: Nine Villages - Chengdu<br />

We journey by coach to Mao County and<br />

en-route visit <strong>the</strong> Huanglong Temple where<br />

coloured pools intertwine, producing a<br />

striking display. Return to Chengdu and visit<br />

<strong>the</strong> Dujiangyan Irrigation Project.<br />

Day 11: Chengdu - Leshan<br />

Travel by coach to Leshan, home to <strong>the</strong><br />

largest stone-carved Buddhist statue in <strong>the</strong><br />

world. Work began on this impressive Buddha<br />

in 713AD and took 90 years to finish.<br />

Days 12-13: Xian<br />

We fly to Xian, where we will enjoy a<br />

traditional ‘Shui Jiao’ welcoming dinner. The<br />

following day view <strong>the</strong> life-size Terracotta<br />

Warriors and one of <strong>the</strong> best preserved<br />

ancient city walls in China, as well as strolling<br />

through <strong>the</strong> lively Muslim Quarter. We<br />

complete <strong>the</strong> day with a performance of<br />

traditional Tang Dynasty dancing.<br />

Days 14-16: Xian - Beijing<br />

Visit <strong>the</strong> Little Wild Goose Pagoda and <strong>the</strong><br />

renowned Shaanxi Museum. Afterwards fly<br />

to Beijing, to visit <strong>the</strong> Temple of Heaven<br />

and enjoy a sample of ‘Peking Duck’. Enjoy<br />

sightseeing at <strong>the</strong> Forbidden City, <strong>the</strong> largest<br />

and most preserved collection of ancient<br />

buildings.Then stroll along Tiananmen Square,<br />

<strong>the</strong> world’s largest public square, past Chaiman<br />

Mao’s Mausoleum, before enjoying a fascinating<br />

Chinese acrobatic show. Next day we will<br />

walk on <strong>the</strong> Great Wall and visit <strong>the</strong> exquisite<br />

Summer Palace, a former Imperial garden.<br />

Day 17: Beijing - <strong>UK</strong><br />

Board our return flight to <strong>the</strong> <strong>UK</strong> arriving<br />

home later <strong>the</strong> same day, filled with many<br />

happy memories.
