Travel by train to ride across <strong>the</strong> Roof of <strong>the</strong> World on <strong>the</strong><br />

1,956km long Qinghai – Tibet railway.This is a journey of over<br />

4,000 kilometres <strong>from</strong> <strong>the</strong> mystical lands of Tibet where we visit<br />

many ancient temples and palaces. We journey across <strong>the</strong> starkly<br />

dramatic Qinghai Plateau to Xian and Beijing.This tour includes a<br />

visit to <strong>the</strong> famous Panda Reserve in Chengdu.<br />

Days 1-3: <strong>UK</strong> - Chengdu<br />

Fly to Hong Kong and connect with our<br />

domestic flight to Chengdu.Tonight enjoy<br />

some of Sichuan’s famous cuisine at our<br />

delicious welcoming dinner. We visit <strong>the</strong><br />

Panda Reserve to see <strong>the</strong>se delightful<br />

animals before moving on to a local<br />

bamboo park.<br />

Days 4-7: Chengdu - Lhasa<br />

Fly to Lhasa for <strong>the</strong> next 4 nights. Spend a<br />

day at leisure to allow for acclimatisation.<br />

Next day we visit Barkhor Square, <strong>the</strong><br />

sacred Jokhang Temple, as well as Sera<br />

Monastery. The following day we visit<br />

<strong>the</strong> magnificent Potala Palace and<br />

Norpulinka, <strong>the</strong> former Summer Palace<br />

of <strong>the</strong> Dalai Lama.Visit <strong>the</strong> Drepung and<br />

Ganden monasteries enjoying a traditional<br />

Tibetan dinner and show.<br />

Day 8: Lhasa - Gyantse<br />

We take a coach trip to explore <strong>the</strong><br />

small town of Gyantse, including <strong>the</strong><br />

mystical Gyantse Kumbum, <strong>the</strong> largest<br />

shrine in Tibet.<br />

Days 9-10: Gyantse - Shigatse - Lhasa<br />

Drive to Shigatse,Tibet’s second largest<br />

town, visit <strong>the</strong> Tashilhunpo Monastery and<br />

explore <strong>the</strong> town’s maze of cobbled lanes.<br />

Return to Lhasa via Yandrok Lake.<br />

Days 11-13: Lhasa - Tibet Railway -<br />

Xining - Xian<br />

Transfer to <strong>the</strong> railway station for our journey<br />

across <strong>the</strong> vast Tibetan Plateau.The new train<br />

is <strong>the</strong> first connecting <strong>the</strong> Tibetan Plateau<br />

with China and is <strong>the</strong> highest rail link in <strong>the</strong><br />

world.Travel through dramatic landscapes as<br />

our train crosses <strong>the</strong> Kunlun and Tangula<br />

Mountains.We arrive in Xining <strong>the</strong> following<br />

day for one night <strong>the</strong>n visit an ethnic village<br />

before <strong>the</strong> overnight sleeper train to Xian.<br />

Days 14-16: Xian<br />

Arrive in Xian this morning. In <strong>the</strong> afternoon<br />

visit <strong>the</strong> Little Wild Goose Pagoda before<br />

enjoying a traditional Shui Jiao cuisine.The<br />

following day we visit <strong>the</strong> famous Terracotta<br />

Warriors and <strong>the</strong> Ancient City Wall. The next<br />

day visit Shaanxi Museum, walk through <strong>the</strong><br />

Muslim Quarter to <strong>the</strong> Great Mosque before<br />

our overnight sleeper train to Beijing.<br />

Days 17-19: Beijing<br />

Visit <strong>the</strong> Summer Palace. Peking Duck<br />

tonight.Tomorrow we stroll through<br />

Tiananmen Square, visit <strong>the</strong> Forbidden City<br />

and <strong>the</strong> Temple of Heaven. For <strong>the</strong> final day<br />

<strong>the</strong>re’s a walk on <strong>the</strong> Great Wall and a<br />

Chinese Acrobatic Show.<br />

Day 20: Beijing - <strong>UK</strong><br />

Fly to <strong>the</strong> <strong>UK</strong>, arriving home <strong>the</strong> same day.
