Travel by train to ride across the Roof of the World on the
1,956km long Qinghai – Tibet railway.This is a journey of over
4,000 kilometres from the mystical lands of Tibet where we visit
many ancient temples and palaces. We journey across the starkly
dramatic Qinghai Plateau to Xian and Beijing.This tour includes a
visit to the famous Panda Reserve in Chengdu.
Days 1-3: UK - Chengdu
Fly to Hong Kong and connect with our
domestic flight to Chengdu.Tonight enjoy
some of Sichuan’s famous cuisine at our
delicious welcoming dinner. We visit the
Panda Reserve to see these delightful
animals before moving on to a local
bamboo park.
Days 4-7: Chengdu - Lhasa
Fly to Lhasa for the next 4 nights. Spend a
day at leisure to allow for acclimatisation.
Next day we visit Barkhor Square, the
sacred Jokhang Temple, as well as Sera
Monastery. The following day we visit
the magnificent Potala Palace and
Norpulinka, the former Summer Palace
of the Dalai Lama.Visit the Drepung and
Ganden monasteries enjoying a traditional
Tibetan dinner and show.
Day 8: Lhasa - Gyantse
We take a coach trip to explore the
small town of Gyantse, including the
mystical Gyantse Kumbum, the largest
shrine in Tibet.
Days 9-10: Gyantse - Shigatse - Lhasa
Drive to Shigatse,Tibet’s second largest
town, visit the Tashilhunpo Monastery and
explore the town’s maze of cobbled lanes.
Return to Lhasa via Yandrok Lake.

Days 11-13: Lhasa - Tibet Railway -
Xining - Xian
Transfer to the railway station for our journey
across the vast Tibetan Plateau.The new train
is the first connecting the Tibetan Plateau
with China and is the highest rail link in the
world.Travel through dramatic landscapes as
our train crosses the Kunlun and Tangula
Mountains.We arrive in Xining the following
day for one night then visit an ethnic village
before the overnight sleeper train to Xian.
Days 14-16: Xian
Arrive in Xian this morning. In the afternoon
visit the Little Wild Goose Pagoda before
enjoying a traditional Shui Jiao cuisine.The
following day we visit the famous Terracotta
Warriors and the Ancient City Wall. The next
day visit Shaanxi Museum, walk through the
Muslim Quarter to the Great Mosque before
our overnight sleeper train to Beijing.
Days 17-19: Beijing
Visit the Summer Palace. Peking Duck
tonight.Tomorrow we stroll through
Tiananmen Square, visit the Forbidden City
and the Temple of Heaven. For the final day
there’s a walk on the Great Wall and a
Chinese Acrobatic Show.
Day 20: Beijing - UK
Fly to the UK, arriving home the same day.
