From its birthplace in the melt waters of the Himalayan Plateau, Asia’s longest river sweeps past the 350 million inhabitants living along its banks and gorges until it meets the Pacific at Shanghai. We also discover ancient treasures like the Forbidden City and Great Wall in Beijing, the Terracotta Warriors in Xian, the amazing Stone forest in Kunming and the “Living Museum” City of Lijiang. Visit Chengdu’s cuddly Pandas in Sichuan Province and discover Yunnan Province’s many cultures in perfectly named “Shangri-La”. FISHERMAN ON THE YANGTZE RIVER
Days 1-3: Beijing Fly to Beijing where you will be met by your National Tour Captain. A welcoming dinner awaits – with Peking Duck as the delicacy. Next morning, walk on the Great Wall and see the Temple of Heaven. In the evening there will be a Chinese Acrobatic Show. Days 4-5: Chengde This former Imperial holiday resort of the Qing Dynasty houses the Imperial mountain villas and temples built for Tibetan warlords. Overnight in Chengde and return to Beijing next day. Day 6: Beijing - Xian Explore the Forbidden City, the largest and best preserved collection of ancient buildings;Tiananmen Square, the world’s largest public square and the Summer Palace before boarding the overnight sleeper train to Xian. Days 7-9: Xian - Wuhan Visit the Little Wild Goose Pagoda and enjoy sumptuous Shui Jiao cuisine. Next morning, be amazed by the Terracotta Warriors, built over 2000 years ago to accompany Emperor Qin Shihuang into the afterlife. Then visit the ancient City Wall and watch a Tang Dynasty show.We also visit the Shaanxi Museum and stroll through the evocative Muslim Quarter to the Great Mosque.Then board the overnight sleeper train to Wuhan. Day 10: Wuhan - Yangtze River Cruise On arrival in Wuhan visit the Yellow Crane Tower and East Lake before driving (6 hours) to your Yangtze River cruise ship for 4 Nights. Days 11-13: Yangtze River Cruise Tour the Three Gorges Dam before sailing upstream through simply beautiful scenery; look forward to side-trips such as Shennong Stream. Days 14-16: Chengdu Disembark the cruise ship and drive to Chengdu for 2 nights.The capital of Sichuan province is renowned for its natural beauty and cuisine.Visit the Panda Reserve, as well as lush mountains including Mt Qincheng, the Dujiangyan ancient irrigation project and take the opportunity to explore the colourful street markets. Enjoy traditional Sichuan cuisine. Finally board the overnight sleeper train to Kunming with its striking views. Connoisseur Tours Days 17-18: Kunming Arrive in the “City of Eternal Spring”. Explore the Bird and Flower Market before sampling the famous ‘Across the Bridge noodles’ for dinner. Next day enjoy a full day tour to the amazing Stone Forest where massive limestone columns create surreal shapes and images. Days 19-20: Lijiang Fly to the ”Living Museum” City of Lijiang and wander through the quaint, cobbled streets of the Old Quarter. Next day view the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain soaring 18,000 ft to the sky, and tour the Baisha Frescoes. In the evening see the Naxi Ancient Music Show. Yangtze River Cruise The mighty Yangtze River or Chang Jiang, is the longest river in Asia and the third longest in the world. The river is about 6,380 km long and flows from its source in Qinghai Province, eastwards into the East China Sea at Shanghai, and is said to be the cradle of Chinese civilization. The Three Gorges, namely Qutang,Wu, and Xiling, are the most famous attractions along the Yangtze River.They span from Eastern Sichuan to Western Hubei, stretching to a total of 193 kilometers, and are recognised as being the deepest gorges in the world. In addition, tourists can visit the Three Gorges Hydroelectric River Dam, which spans the Yangtze River and is the largest dam in the world, more than 5 times the size of Hoover Dam. The water level has already risen 180 feet at some spots, and will rise close to 600 feet when the dam project completes in 2009, submerging a lot of the stunning landscape.The earlier you go the more natural scenery you will be able to see. Go soon! Days 21-23: Zhongdian Drive to Zhongdian, seeing the famous Tiger Leaping Gorge en-route. Zhongdian, often called ‘Shangri-La’ thrives with Tibetan Culture.Visit the Baishui Terrace, where sparkling water tumbles over layers of limestone pools, Napa Hai Lake and the Songshanlin Monastery built by a Dalai Lama. Days 24-25: Dali Drive to Dali. On the way explore Xizhou Village before moving on to Zhoucheng Village to witness Bai women demonstrate ‘Tie-dying’ techniques. In Dali, explore the Ancient Quarter while the next morning visit the Three Pagodas and cruise beautiful Erhai Lake. In the evening stroll down Foreigners Street, with its lively atmosphere!
