around Euro 3550/tonne. Obviously, different capital cost and costs <strong>of</strong> the growth media<br />
do affect the forecast <strong>of</strong> the breakeven price for in vitro meat, and these costs can be<br />
reduced <strong>by</strong> for instance reducing the costs <strong>of</strong> the process plants, increasing the scale <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>production</strong> or reducing the cost <strong>of</strong> media preparation.<br />
Experts’ opinions (6): Role <strong>of</strong> The Netherlands in the development <strong>of</strong> cultured<br />
meat technology<br />
• The Netherlands seems to be taking a leading role in this research at this time. If<br />
they stick with it they may emerge as the technology leaders in this area.<br />
• The Dutch research effort into developing in vitro meat has the potential to<br />
revolutionize agriculture, saves human lives, and significantly reduce climate change.<br />
I sincerely hope that the Dutch government will expand its support <strong>of</strong> this research,<br />
positioning The Netherlands as a global leader.<br />
• I believe that in vitro meat would be important for a densely populated country like<br />
The Netherlands with a large meat <strong>production</strong>. I hope the Netherlands will continue<br />
