Woodlands<br />

In the Intermountain West the extent of woodlands has<br />

increased over the last 150 years, especially woodlands<br />

that include aspen, pinyon, and juniper. This<br />

increase in tree species has caused some plant communities<br />

to shift from shrubs, grasses and forbs with scattered<br />

trees to communities dominated by trees.<br />

Woodland plants such as mountain mahogany may<br />

provide structure for nest sites of Red-tailed and<br />

Ferruginous Hawks and may attract bird species<br />
