Brewer’s Blackbird (Euphagus cyanocephalus)
Identification: 8–10″ – Male: Iridescent black all
over with yellow or yellow-white eyes. Female: Dark
eyes and wings, dull gray-brown body.
Feeding: Collects its food on the ground.
Habitat: Open woodlands and shrubby areas. Nests
low in shrubs or on the ground, in dry washes, along
wet meadows, or along riparian areas, and on human
structures. Often associated with wet areas.
Conservation: Abundant but declining. Can be a
nuisance to agriculture. Keep food sources (e.g., grain)
covered to prevent offering them a feeding station.
