endorsed with the delighted inscription “Thank God<br />
for Simon”.’<br />
Those words rang true for everyone gathered in<br />
Christ Church Spitalfields, and for none truer<br />
than for the Vice-Chancellor and the other<br />
representatives <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Cambridge</strong><br />
whose vow <strong>of</strong> silence was suddenly lifted. At last we<br />
can acknowledge publicly our pr<strong>of</strong>ound debt to the<br />
man who was, until his untimely death on 28<br />
September 2006, our greatest living benefactor.<br />
