Three on the Trot
Grants Braes travelled to Invercargill for a
first round Chatham cup-tie against Waihopi.
Braes, who are still yet to win a game this
season, were determined turn their luck
around. They dominated the game from the
off, going close from the set piece on four
occasions.
They looked comfortable going forward
and had the better of the possession in the
opening stages. However, it was Waihopi
who took the lead when one of their players
was fouled in the penalty box.
Goalkeeper Anthony Melon managed to get
a hand to the ball but couldn’t quite stop it
hitting the back of the net.
As the game reached the final stages
Braes made a substitution, bringing on Blake
List, who immediately raised the intensity of the game and scored an equalizer in
the 86th minute. Braes pushed on and in the 88th minute got a well-deserved
winner through striker Sam Martin. Grants Brae will
progress to the next round with a new found confidence which will hopefully give
their season the boost it needs.
In other scores Grants braes 2nd went down 11-2 to a fantastic university
2nds side…. Two consolation goals from Nick Patterson still could not spare Braes
the embarrassment.
Grants Braes 3rds lost 4-0 away at Roslyn while the senior women’s Al
side won 3-2 and the over 35s had a good 4-2 win.
