HEALTH Myths and misfortunes of Pediculosis By CLAUDIA MOODY In recent years lice have become a major health problem. After World War II the incidence declined. However, they have made a vigorous worldwide comeback. They are found in every climate and may infect anyone from any socioeconomic group perhaps due in part to the increase in sexual freedom, communal living and population mobility. Lice complete their entire life cycle on their host (the human body). Eggs are firmly attached to hair shafts and.-clothing by a strong cement bond and will incubate and hatch ten days after laying in temperatures more than 229C. This is an allergic reaction from an irritating substance in the saliva of the louse injected into the skin at the feeding site. There may also be mild fever and swelling of glands in the neck. GNAG BAG Summer schedule rest and relaxation By BILL LIPPMAN In a cowslip's bell I lie; There I couch when owls do cry. The lilacs have scented the air. Our community activities reflect the season. The Hungarian Village restaurant recently witnessed GNAG's 1985 Graduation Dinner. Cindy Green and Shelley Higgins-Coté teamed to organize this annual rite de passage. Outgoing members of the executive were thanked and presented with tokens of appreciation. New members were welcomed and treated to one of Al Noble's poems. A good time was had by all. As our spring activities draw to a close everything is pretty well in place for our summer pro- gramme. "<strong>Glebe</strong> Encounters of the Summer Kind" is a great series of camps and activities for those up to 15 years of age. There will be opportunities to try out new things and generally enjoy summer so check the summer brochure for details. For kids looking to turn summer hours into dollars: Don't forget the Youth Placement Service. Those needing a job accomplished or those looking to earn a few dollars should contact the Centre about this service. Casual employment (ba- by sitting, moving, lawn cutting) and services are readily available through this source. With all the comings and goings of adults over the summer, we don't have many programmes offered for those in this mature category. The future holds many possibilities. Our autumn schedule will be out all too auickly. For now, whether it's at the cottage or on vacation or in the hammock, have a good summer!
