GCA
A new rider in the GCA saddle
By JIM MC
CARTHY
Readers may have noticed
the absence of Rob Quinn's
smiling visage at the top
of this column. After two
years in the saddle, he has
finally managed to pass
the reins of office to
another marginally willing
victim.
The occasion for this
handover was the GCA's Annual
General Meeting (AGM)
an May 14. This meeting
was highlighted by statements
from two declared mayoralty
candidates, and the opportunity
to question them on
their views on a variety of
issues.
The new slate of GCA Directors
coming out of this
year's AGM can be found
elsewhere in this issue.
One feature of this slate
is the addition of a second
director to represent
business interests, consistent
with the renewal surge of
interest in our business
community.
In last month's column
and at the AGM, Rob and I
mentioned the contributions
of retiring directors, particularly
Don Ray, our longterm
expert on Lansdowne
matters. I shall limit
further tributes to an expression
of thanks and appreciation
to Rob Quinn.
My predecessor has bequeathed
me an organization that is
in excellent shape in terms
of its membership, its administrative
efficiency,
its ability to react to new
situations and issues, and
the respect in which we
are held by the various
bodies and groups which
act on and within our neighbourhood
(e.g. the City,
Region, developers, business
community, etc).
Those of us who have worked
with Rob know how much
this state of affairs is
due to Rob's personal
efforts. His is quite an
act to follow, and he has
left me a substantial
agenda. Now to business:
