Saturday<br />
Rendezvous at our hotel in Grange-over-Sands for<br />
an Introductory Talk and Welcome Dinner.<br />

Sunday<br />
We walk the wild and unspoiled landscape of <strong>The</strong><br />
Lake District National Park. From Beacon Tarn we<br />
have a view of the 'Old Man', a rocky outcrop<br />
towering 3,000 feet over Lake Coniston.<br />
Overnight: Grasmere, Rothay Garden<br />
Monday<br />
Overlooking Windermere, England's largest lake,<br />
we enjoy softer, more pastoral scenery. After<br />
lunch, we pause for a last look at the distant<br />
mountains of Cumbria, say farewell to Windermere<br />
and walk on to Crook.<br />

Tuesday<br />
From Aysgarth, our walk in <strong>The</strong> Yorkshire Dales<br />
National Park encompasses the contrasts of waterfalls<br />
and rock-sided valleys with agrarian landscapes<br />
and the massive Penn Hill. This afternoon,<br />
we walk in beautiful Wensleydale, famous for its<br />
cheese, past Middleham Castle (once home to King<br />
Richard III).<br />

Wednesday<br />
Now in the heart of James Herriot country, we<br />
walk up to Witton Fell, a wild heather-covered<br />
moor where grouse and plover thrive. At lunch, we<br />
may choose to sample the eponymous brew in the<br />
famous Black Sheep Brewery in Masham.<br />

Thursday<br />
We cross the Vale of York to North York<br />
Moors National Park. We visit the great<br />
Abbey of Rievaulx and follow the monks’<br />
trail into the picturesque market town of<br />
Helmsley, where the castle was a Royalist<br />
stronghold during the Civil War.<br />

Friday<br />
We take the steam-driven North Yorkshire<br />
Moors Railway to Goathland, before our<br />
hike to the picturesque village of Sleights. We<br />
complete our journey to the North Sea with a<br />
celebratory drink on the beach at Sandsend.<br />
Overnight: Near Whitby, Dunsley Hall Country<br />

Saturday<br />
After breakfast, <strong>The</strong> <strong>Wayfarers</strong> will transfer you<br />
from your hotel by private bus to Darlington Rail<br />
Station.<br />
