Itinerary
Saturday
Rendezvous at our hotel in Grange-over-Sands for
an Introductory Talk and Welcome Dinner.
Overnight: Grange-over-Sands, Netherwood
Hotel
Sunday
We walk the wild and unspoiled landscape of The
Lake District National Park. From Beacon Tarn we
have a view of the 'Old Man', a rocky outcrop
towering 3,000 feet over Lake Coniston.
Overnight: Grasmere, Rothay Garden
Monday
Overlooking Windermere, England's largest lake,
we enjoy softer, more pastoral scenery. After
lunch, we pause for a last look at the distant
mountains of Cumbria, say farewell to Windermere
and walk on to Crook.
Overnight: Crook, Famous Wild Boar
Tuesday
From Aysgarth, our walk in The Yorkshire Dales
National Park encompasses the contrasts of waterfalls
and rock-sided valleys with agrarian landscapes
and the massive Penn Hill. This afternoon,
we walk in beautiful Wensleydale, famous for its
cheese, past Middleham Castle (once home to King
Richard III).
Overnight: East Witton, The Blue Lion Hotel
Wednesday
Now in the heart of James Herriot country, we
walk up to Witton Fell, a wild heather-covered
moor where grouse and plover thrive. At lunch, we
may choose to sample the eponymous brew in the
famous Black Sheep Brewery in Masham.

Thursday
We cross the Vale of York to North York
Moors National Park. We visit the great
Abbey of Rievaulx and follow the monks’
trail into the picturesque market town of
Helmsley, where the castle was a Royalist
stronghold during the Civil War.

Hotel
Friday
We take the steam-driven North Yorkshire
Moors Railway to Goathland, before our
hike to the picturesque village of Sleights. We
complete our journey to the North Sea with a
celebratory drink on the beach at Sandsend.
Overnight: Near Whitby, Dunsley Hall Country
House Hotel
Saturday
After breakfast, The Wayfarers will transfer you
from your hotel by private bus to Darlington Rail
Station.

three national parks, some brisk hills with
walks along hillsides, bluffs and valleys.
