Sunday<br />

We take a guided walking tour of Siena. We take a<br />

scenic drive to Montalcino for our Introductory<br />

Talk and Welcome Dinner.<br />

Overnight: Montalcino, Hotel Vecchia Oliviera<br />

Monday<br />

We walk through olive groves and vineyards to the<br />

romantic abbey of Sant’Antimo to hear Gregorian<br />

chant. After lunch in a local trattoria, we visit a<br />

Brunello winery farm where we see the wine<br />

production and enjoy a wine tasting.<br />

Overnight: Montalcino, Hotel Vecchia Oliviera<br />

Tuesday<br />

We walk over rolling hills, through vineyards and<br />

wheat fields, to the medieval village of San Quirico<br />

d’Orcia for lunch in a local restaurant. We<br />

continue to Bagno Vignoni, with its Renaissance<br />

pool in the main square, where hot water<br />

bubbles up from underground springs. Time to<br />

bathe in the pool before dinner.<br />

Wednesday<br />

On Monte Cetona, we walk through oak and<br />

maple woods to the caves where Saint Francis<br />

dwelt, and continue to lunch in Castigliocello<br />

del Trinoro. Trails lead us to the worldrenowned<br />

gardens of La Foce.<br />

Overnight: Bagno Vignoni, Albergo Le Terme<br />

Thursday<br />

We walk from our hotel to a<br />

Tuscan farmhouse, where we<br />

learn to prepare Tuscan<br />

specialities, followed by lunch<br />

in this glorious setting. We<br />

continue to Pienza, a<br />

delightful hilltop town built<br />

by Pope Pius II.<br />

Friday<br />

This morning, we explore Pienza and admire this<br />

curious example of Renaissance town planning.<br />

We visit the Romitorio of Pienza , an Etruscan<br />

tomb used as a hermitage in the Middle Ages. We<br />

walk to ll Casale for lunch and continue to<br />

Montepulciano, a stunning little Renaissance<br />

hilltop town for a tasting of its famous "vino<br />

nobile" red wine.<br />

Saturday<br />

This morning <strong>The</strong> <strong>Wayfarers</strong> arrange your transfer<br />

to Chiusi station.<br />
