Transmission Health Index
Hydro One’s transmission and distribution
assets were recently subjected to the
Hatch Energy ‘Asset Health Index,’ to help
one of the largest electricity transmission
and distribution systems in North America
to assess near-term issues with each asset.
Assets assessed include circuit breakers,
transformers, transmission towers,
wooden poles and control equipment.
The asset assessments are completed
in order to help develop system management
plans and to ensure that adequate
funding through electricity rates is
secured.
The ‘Health Index’ methodology can be
applied to industrial and power-generation
facilities. The methodology is very
helpful in making cases for regulatory
submissions, investors, operators and
risk managers.
INDUSTRIAL PROJECTS
Irving Oil Readies for Ultra-low-sulfur
Diesel Rules
Irving Oil chose Hatch staff to ensure
a safe and successful project that would
create needed Terminal Segregation as
part of Irving Oil’s overall preparation for
the joint Canada/US legislation that
requires all diesel products to contain less
than 15 parts-per-million-by-weight sulfur
content at the pumps.
Of 40 refinery sites reviewed, 19 Irving
Marine and Inland Storage and Distribution
facilities had to be modified.
More than 35,000 work-hours were
performed without a lost-time incident.
Engineering, design, procurement and
construction-management services were
completed by Hatch staff in Sydney, Nova
Scotia and Saint John, New Brunswick.
Despite the diversity and widespread
locations of the facilities, all infrastructure
modifications were completed on schedule.
Hydro One’s energy transmission and
distribution assets were reviewed using
a Hatch Energy methodology.
Irving Oil’s terminal segregation project
was supported by Hatch’s industrial
group in the Atlantic Provinces.
