Safety is our most important priority on all projects, while we’re traveling, and in every Hatch
and project office. We do everything humanly possible to ensure the safety of our employees,
our contractors and our visitors through frequent communications, continuous training and
appropriate safety equipment.
Hatch safety statistics for 2006
indicate that Hatch’s safety
performance is 10 times more
successful than the mining
and construction industries
worldwide.
For several years, Hatch has been a regular
winner of Safety Awards in Australia, North
America, South America and South Africa.

Our safety programs and methodologies
have been cited by clients
as “outstanding” and “world class.”
The measurement of our work hours
without a lost-time incident is
reported in the millions of hours
on several major projects.
We develop safety plans that include
standards, incident reports, site
procedures and training details for
major-project personnel, contractors
and suppliers.
Every major Hatch project implements
the Safety Information Management
System to ensure clients are fully
aware, on a timely basis, of safety
program data. Hatch also issues alerts
to Hatch, client and project personnel
when external events arise that put
people at a health or safety risk.
Hatch also helps clients manage their
safety and health risks during the
engineering-design process, which
can result in the elimination of many
potential hazards.
Nickel Rim Sets New
Safety Milestone
On February 19, the Xstrata Nickel Rim
project surpassed a milestone of no
lost-time incidents in 2 million workhours.
Our project team included more than
3,000 people from 319 supplier companies
on site. The Nickel Rim Lost-Time
Frequency rate is running at 0.17
compared with Ontario-averages of
0.70 and 2.33 for the mining and
construction industries respectively.
