Connell <strong>Hatch</strong> Manages<br />
Terminal Expansion<br />
Connell <strong>Hatch</strong> was appointed EPCM<br />
contractor for the $1.1-billion Dalrymple<br />
Bay Coal Terminal Expansion project<br />
in Queensland, Australia.<br />
Connell <strong>Hatch</strong> has provided similar<br />
services on three other major coal<br />
terminal expansions in Australia.<br />
On Dalrymple Bay, Connell Wagner<br />
and <strong>Hatch</strong> have provided most of the<br />
engineering for the terminal, and significant<br />
expansion work since its construction<br />
in the late 1970s.<br />
The joint venture has been working<br />
on the current expansion project since<br />
November 2004. The expansion will<br />
increase capacity from 54 million tonnes<br />
per annum (mtpa) to 85 mtpa, making<br />
it one of the largest coal terminals in<br />
the world.<br />
The client <strong>is</strong> Babcock & Brown<br />
Infrastructure. The customer base for<br />
the terminal <strong>is</strong> the Bowen Basin coal<br />
mines, including those owned by<br />
the world’s largest mining companies,<br />
who are eager to sat<strong>is</strong>fy intensive<br />
international demand for coal.<br />
The project includes a new rail dump<br />
station and a third inloading conveyor<br />
system; three new stockyard bunds, two<br />
new stackers, two new stacker/reclaimers;<br />
upgrades to five stacker/reclaimers<br />
and two shiploaders; a third outloading<br />
conveyor system; a new berth; and general<br />
upgrades to inloading and outloading<br />
capacity and associated infrastructure.<br />
The project <strong>is</strong> scheduled for completion<br />
in late 2008.<br />

The BHP Billiton Mitsub<strong>is</strong>hi Alliance (BMA)<br />
operates seven coal mines in the Bowen<br />
Basin, Queensland. Blackwater <strong>is</strong> one<br />
Connell <strong>Hatch</strong> <strong>is</strong> providing EPCM<br />
services for the $1.1-billion Dalrymple<br />
Bay Coal Terminal Expansion Project.<br />
