Connell Hatch Manages
Terminal Expansion
Connell Hatch was appointed EPCM
contractor for the $1.1-billion Dalrymple
Bay Coal Terminal Expansion project
in Queensland, Australia.
Connell Hatch has provided similar
services on three other major coal
terminal expansions in Australia.
On Dalrymple Bay, Connell Wagner
and Hatch have provided most of the
engineering for the terminal, and significant
expansion work since its construction
in the late 1970s.
The joint venture has been working
on the current expansion project since
November 2004. The expansion will
increase capacity from 54 million tonnes
per annum (mtpa) to 85 mtpa, making
it one of the largest coal terminals in
the world.
The client is Babcock & Brown
Infrastructure. The customer base for
the terminal is the Bowen Basin coal
mines, including those owned by
the world’s largest mining companies,
who are eager to satisfy intensive
international demand for coal.
The project includes a new rail dump
station and a third inloading conveyor
system; three new stockyard bunds, two
new stackers, two new stacker/reclaimers;
upgrades to five stacker/reclaimers
and two shiploaders; a third outloading
conveyor system; a new berth; and general
upgrades to inloading and outloading
capacity and associated infrastructure.
The project is scheduled for completion
in late 2008.
