■ Reflecting the growing demand for service-related projects, a group of IIT students designed and constructed a 1,000-square-foot activity center for the Lynn Meadows Discovery Center, one of America’s Top 50 children’s museums, in Hurricane Katrina-ravaged Gulfport, Miss. The group, led by Professor Frank Flury, celebrated the ribbon cutting of the facility last summer. ■ Professor John Durbrow and his students are participating in a renovation effort of the historic Pullman Palace Car Company, which was severely damaged by fire in 1998. The group developed plans to convert the building into a museum. ■ Dean Donna V. Robertson was elected to the College of Fellows of The American Institute of Architects (AIA). The honor, one of the highest awards that the AIA bestows, recognizes members for their contributions to the profession.
