I feel a great sense of gratitude as I begin my first year as chair.
Gratitude to outgoing chairman Bob Pritzker, for his many years of exemplary
service, and to the board at large, for setting and maintaining a strong course for
this stellar university.
Gratitude to retiring President Lew Collens, for his vision, passion, and
leadership, and to the faculty and staff, who labor every day to do their best for
IIT students.
And gratitude to IIT, an institution of tremendous importance and one poised to
play a larger role in confronting and overcoming the challenges we face at the
local, national, and international level.
As chairman and chief executive officer of Exelon Corporation, I am keenly aware
of the need for a new generation of highly skilled, well-educated engineers,
researchers, technicians, and innovators. The demanding academic environment
at IIT, and its focus on interprofessional studies, helps assure a steady stream of
top-notch professionals in areas of critical importance to the United States, both
economic and strategic.
As a new chapter in the rich history of IIT begins, the university is committed
to preparing young men and women for productive lives and careers while
remaining a source of technical proficiency and entrepreneurial zeal in our
region and beyond.
