This Court has received information that the Mail from Providence to<br />

Newport, which contains Letters from the post Office at Cambridge, was intercepted<br />

last week by a Man <strong>of</strong> Wars boat, in passing Conanicut ferry, and Several<br />

<strong>of</strong> the letters taken out, your Honr is Sensible that it may be <strong>of</strong> the most consequence,<br />

to have letters from these parts, fall into the hands <strong>of</strong> those who are<br />

Seeking our destruction. We therefore request <strong>of</strong> your Honor, that some order<br />

may be taken in your Government, that all Letters to or from the Post <strong>of</strong>fice at<br />

Cambridge may be Conveyed by Land thro' your Colony, as far as it is practicable,<br />

and that none be allowed to be Sent over the Conanicut ferry, -<br />

<strong>The</strong> Petition from the Inhabitants <strong>of</strong> Machias, and the Account accompanying<br />

it, were read, and committed to Colonel Otis, Colonel Thompson, and<br />

Mr. Gushing.'<br />

Ordered, That Mr. Sullivan, Mr. Story, and Captain Goodman with such<br />

as the honourable Board shall join, be a Committee to consult what measures can<br />

be taken to cut <strong>of</strong>f the communication <strong>of</strong> intelligence which is said to go to the<br />

enemy by means <strong>of</strong> the Man <strong>of</strong> War at Portsmouth.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Memorial from the Officers <strong>of</strong> the Eastern Regiment in the County <strong>of</strong><br />

Lincoln read, and committed to Mr. Rice, Colonel Orne, and Colonel Davis, with<br />

such as the honourable Board shall join.3<br />

Watertown, August 14.<br />

We hear from Cape-Ann, that a Vessel bound in there from the West-Indies,<br />

being discovered <strong>of</strong>f that Harbour last Tuesday, [August 81, several <strong>of</strong> the inhabitants<br />

went <strong>of</strong>f in a Boat to assist in bringing her in. Soon after, about<br />

30 armed [men], from the Man <strong>of</strong> War commanded by Capt [John] Lindzee,<br />

boarded and took Possession <strong>of</strong> the Vessel; but she running aground on the Cape,
