Order'd that the Colonel <strong>of</strong> Militia have in readiness the Men upon whom<br />
they. can most depend to March on the first notice, And that all Officers <strong>of</strong> the<br />
Militia do take the Oath to Government at the next Meeting <strong>of</strong> the General<br />

MEDOWS, R.N., H.M.S. Tartar, HALIFAX<br />
Sir Halifax 15 August 1775<br />
Having received information last Night by letter from Windsor from the<br />
Lieut. Governor and from Mr. Deschamps, One <strong>of</strong> the Assistant Judges <strong>of</strong> the<br />
Supreme Court, that from intelligence they just then received the People <strong>of</strong><br />
Machias were Meditating a design <strong>of</strong> equipping two Armed Vessells, the King<br />
Schooner Diligence lately taken being one <strong>of</strong> them, in order to proceed to the<br />
Bay <strong>of</strong> Fundy and thence into the Bason <strong>of</strong> Minas to come to Windsor and there<br />
destroy the Vessells laden with Provisions and Hay for the Army at Boston, Also<br />
to destroy the Cattle in the Country if they could not carry them <strong>of</strong>f.<br />
I therefore thought it necessary to take the Opinion and Advice <strong>of</strong> His<br />
Majesty's Council, in Order to take Measures to prevent the ill consequences<br />
which Might attend such an Attempt, and the same having been taken into Consideration<br />
- It was Resolved that application should be made to the Officer Commanding<br />
His Majestys Ships in this Harbour, that he would Order His Majestys<br />
Sloop Senegal to proceed to the Bay <strong>of</strong> Fundy without loss <strong>of</strong> time, there to Cruize<br />
for the purpose <strong>of</strong> protecting the Vessels laden with Stores and Provisions for<br />
the Anny, and all Vessells Sailing to and from the Bay, and to give all possible<br />
Aid and protection to that Part <strong>of</strong> the Province -<br />
And I do Sir, Accordingly communicate this Resolution to You for His<br />
Majesty's Service, and for the Safety and Protection <strong>of</strong> His loyal Subjects in<br />
