Portsmouth, August 15.<br />

Committee Hall, Portsmouth August 13, 1775. <strong>The</strong> Committee <strong>of</strong> Safety<br />

finding it inconsistent with the Peace and good Order <strong>of</strong> this Town, that any<br />

further communication should be kept up between the Ship Scarborough and<br />

the Town,<br />

<strong>The</strong>refore Voted, That henceforward no Boats pass or repass from the said<br />

Ship or the Town <strong>of</strong> New-Castle without a Permit from this Committee, or the<br />

Select-Men or Committee <strong>of</strong> New-Castle.<br />

By order <strong>of</strong> the Committee :<br />

We are credibly inform'd, that in Consequence <strong>of</strong> the above Vote, Capt.<br />

[Andrew] Barkley <strong>of</strong> the Scarborough, has stopped all our Shipping, outward<br />

[Extract] Cambridge Camp, August 15, 1775.<br />

I am glad to relieve you from your Anxiety, respectiilg Troops being sent from<br />

Boston to Quebeck. <strong>The</strong>se Reports, I apprehend, took their Rise from a Fleet<br />

being fitted out about fourteen Days ago to plunder the Islands in the Sound, <strong>of</strong><br />

their live Stock; an Expedition which they have executed%ith some Success, and<br />

are just returning; but you may depend on it no Troops have been detached from<br />

Boston for Canada or elsewhere.<br />

Moored with Springs on our Cables in Chas Town River<br />

at f/2 past 3 P M the Rebels Opened two Batteries and fired on<br />

our lines And floating Battery at 6 saw a Party <strong>of</strong> them a breast<br />

<strong>of</strong> our ship, on whom we fired two 6 Pounders.
