o
Figure l. The distribution of Parmelia puUa s. lat. in Finland, according to herbarium specimens
analyzed. Symbols: ! = strain | ('pulla", with stenosporic acid etc.), f = strain 2 ("pulla,,,with
divaricatic acid etc.), O = strain 3 ("delisei", with glomelliferic acid etc.), A = chemically intermediate
forms between "pulla" and"delisei".
sions exhibited no clear, essential differences
and are consistent with the few measurements
made by me.
Chemistry
Esslinger (L977 p. 107-108 and L36) also
reported on the secondary chemistry of the
tara in question. In P. delisei he detected glomelliferic,
glomellic and perlatolic acids, with
gyrophoric acid (!) as an accessory compound.
For P. pulla he reported stenosporic or/and
divaricatic acids, with accessory gyrophoric
acid (i), and very rarely perlatolic acid. Occasional
unknown, accessory substances were
designated TE-l and TE-3.
