coerulescentes, sed substantia I+ aurantiaca
impleti, L5-20 x 5 pm magni, quisque 8 ascosporas
continens. Ascosporae distiche dispositae,
hyalinae, quaeque uno septo divisa, ad
septrum non constricta, elongate ellipsoides,
ma:rimam diametrum supra ipsum septrum
attingens, ad apices paulum attenuata, 7 -9 x
2-3#m magna, membrana laevi.

Fungus occurring on the moribund bases of
thalli of Cetraia cucullata. Mycelium of
brown, smooth-walled hyphae ramiffing
through the host thallus, 3-5 pm in diam.
Ascomata closely scattered over the surface,
up to 60 mm2, only occurring on one side of
the thallus, partly immersed in the thallus,
globose to slightly conical, black, shiny, 35-50
,nm in diam., with an apical pore 4-7 ;rm in
diam. Ascomatal wall textura angularis, with
isodiametric cells some 3-5 pm in diam., but
flattened tangentially, only two cells, 4-5 ,nm
thick; pigmentation uniform throughout,
amorphus. Hamathecium of indistinct paraphysoids;
periphyses not seen. Asci abundant,
up to 30 per ascoma, obovate-cylindrical,
bitunicate with a relatively narrow ocular
chamber, young asci staining I+ blue, but the
ascus content staining I+ orange; 15-20 x 5
pm. Ascospores 8 per ascus, distichously
arranged, hyaline, L-septate, not constricted at
the septum, elongate ellipsoid with the widest
part just above the septum, somewhat attenuated
at the ends, smooth-walled,7-9 x 2-3
pm.
The species is distinct in the size of the
ascomata and ascospores. It is unusual in the
abundance of asci in the ascomata and in the
asci staining blue with I. It is referred to Stigmidium
rather than Zwacl
