development committees in 48 villages in<br />

CSZ, training of cluster representatives, needs<br />

assessment & prioritisation, project preparation with<br />

health posts (40 MCH + 80 health posts throughout<br />

3 zones)<br />

Recruitment training and deployment of 240 female<br />

community health workers (FCHWs)<br />

Behaviour Communication Change (BCC) strategy<br />

Village development committees and representatives<br />

in place and trained with local priorities and solutions<br />

for improving health identified and sensitised.<br />

Inter-sectoral collaboration<br />

Through collaboration with health sector,<br />

nutrition component of MCH services can be<br />

strengthened <strong>–</strong> development of standardised<br />

protocols, comprehensive training ( pre-service<br />

and in service) supervision and monitoring<br />

in following areas: assessment of nutritional<br />

status, IYCF and maternal nutrition counselling,<br />

micronutrient treatment and supplementation,<br />

prevention and control of diarrhoea<br />

New innovation of FCHWs can be trained as<br />

breast feeding counsellors, to provide nutrition<br />

counselling for mothers and young children, the<br />

distribution of micronutrient supplementation,<br />

prevention and control of diarrhoea activities<br />

Key nutrition messages can be incorporated<br />

into BCC strategy in particular regarding optimal<br />

breast feeding, complementary feeding, good<br />

hygiene and hand washing practices<br />

Operational research will help in evaluation of<br />

feasibility and effectiveness<br />

Delivery mechanism for key nutrition messages<br />

and advocacy for improved IYCF, hygiene and<br />

sanitation practices at the community level
