Sudbrooke Gardening Club May meeting. A dry interval between heavy showers allowed members to wander around the garden and orchard of hosts Mike and Margaret Halliday. Unusually for the time of year there were many daffodils and tulips in full bloom. Most of the fruit trees and flowering cherry trees were laden with blossom but as with last year the cold wet weather is deterring the pollinators. The non- cultivated areas of land were awash with cowslips, some of which had hybridized into different petal shapes and colours. The vegetable patch and soft fruit beds were struggling compared to a ‘normal’ year. A closely contested quiz was won by Sheila and Mike Cannon, Margaret Halliday and Barry Reeves. Next meeting Monday 10th June. Will be hosted by David and Sandy Bowles at Stonebrooke House, 46, Scothern Lane from 7-30 pm. Mike Halliday ( Secretary ) tel 754686.
