Programme
Day 1. Friday 16 August
8.30 Leave GTK North Finland Office.
9.00 Leave from hotel Pohjanhovi (downtown
Rovaniemi).
9.30 Leave from Rovaniemi airport.
Stop 1. Lunch at Sodankylä town. About 130 km
drive (2 h) north from Rovaniemi.
Stop 2. Pahtavaara gold mine (Lappland Goldminers)
at Sodankylä. About 35 km drive northwest
from Sodankylä town. We will visit the
active Pahtavaara gold mine. Possibility to see
the ore and the hosting sequence, as well as the
processing plant.
Stop 3. Levi, Kittilä. 80 km west from Pahtavaara,
but 135 km along road. Accommodation
at Hotel K5, dinner in the evening at the hotel.
Day 2. Saturday 17 August
8.00 Leave hotel. We will return to the same
hotel in the evening.
Stop 1. Saattopora gold-copper mine (closed
mine). About 45 km drive (45 min) to the westnorth-west
from Kittilä town. Visit open pit
and waste rock piles, see the ore and the hosting
sequence.
Stop 2. Lunch at Kittilä town.
Stop 3. Kittilä Mine. Agnico Eagle geologists’
presentation on the geology and mining operations.
The exact localities to be visited depend on
the accessibility to different parts of the mine.
Possibly visit to the core yard near Kittilä town
after the mine visit.
Stop 4. Levi, Kittilä. About 40 km drive from
Kittilä mine. Accommodation at Hotel K5, dinner
in the evening at the hotel.
Day 3. Sunday 18 August
9.00 Checkout and leave hotel. Drive 210 km
(3 h) south to the Rompas area.
Stop 1. Rompas Au-U prospect. Mawson Resources
geologists’ presentation on the project.
Visit to exploration trenches, outcrops with visible
gold, see the project terrain and geophysical
and geochemical exploration data. Field lunch.
16.00 About 40 km, c. 45 min. drive to Rovaniemi
to the east. The bus will stop at the hotels
downtown and at the Rovaniemi airport.
