infrastructure
Building effective, efficient and
sustainable services and an
infrastructure that supports the
university’s activities.
The university is a large, complex organisation which, to be
successful, requires effective and responsive services and
state-of-the-art infrastructure. Our objective is to ensure
that our services and infrastructure are of excellent quality
and that they match our academic aspirations.
A common theme in this plan is the growing importance
and infl uence of information technology. We will develop
further our information technology capabilities so that we are
recognised as a sector leader in the use of technologically
advanced systems. Technology will enable us to minimise
duplication and improve the processes and systems that
focus on what students, staff and stakeholders need.

reduce administrative costs, while an enhanced website
will be a fi rst-class internal and external marketing tool and
data source. Both the quality and resilience of data will be
improved, leading to more effi cient investment based on
planned expenditure and surpluses.
Learning resource centres remain at the heart of universities.
We will work to ensure that our libraries meet the needs of
both students and staff and are attractive places to study,
providing both physical and electronic resources.
The estate contributes to the experiences of all involved with
the university. The quality of buildings and facilities will be
increasingly important in attracting and retaining high-quality
students and staff. A new university building in Greenwich
will be operational in 2014 and a review of future needs
